DUNCAN LIBRARY

Duncan Library continues to fulfill its roles as a neighborhood focal point, a congenial work environment, and an inviting place to read and learn. A single-story addition influenced by community input provides a new reading room for the adult collection and an expansion of the children’s collection. The entrance, staff workroom, meeting rooms, and restrooms were reconfigured to serve the enlarged facility. A new continuous clerestory supplements the mechanical system with daylighting thereby reducing the energy demand while improving visitors comfort. The library is the first municipal facility in Alexandria to be retrofitted with a green roof.
